The Moving Wall

From September 18 through September 24, 2002 the Moving Wall, a half size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D. C. was on display in Quay Park, Beaver, PA twenty-four hours a day. The Moving Wall was brought to this area through the efforts of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc., Beaver County Chapter 862.

Week long activities included a Tent of Honor with displays honoring those from Beaver County who didn't come home, a Tent of Memory showcasing memorabilia from Vietnam, and a Visitor's Tent with information about the Wall, the Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America. Volunteers were present to talk, give information, and be of assistance to all visitors. An eternal flame was lit during the opening ceremonies to honor all of the fallen and missing that are listed on the Wall. Meaningful ceremonies were held on the opening and closing days, as well as a special recognition ceremony and luncheon for Gold Star Mothers.

On National POW/MIA day, a “Ride to the Wall” took place with over 1700 motorcycle riders participating. Each rider wore one or more armbands with the names of one of the 1905 still missing in Vietnam. The ride ended with a candlelight memorial ceremony, which included the unveiling of a new monument in the shape of a POW bracelet bearing the inscription, "In honor of all POW & MIA of all wars. You are not forgotten."
